Aubrey Moore of the Weddington Optimist Club started this program in 1997 for Sun Valley and Weddington High School by awarding one laptop computer to a deserving senior. The program eventually expanded to include all eleven high schools in Union County. Students write an essay as to why they feel they deserve a scholarship for their future pursuits in life.
The 2023 program will award five $2,000 scholarships to deserving graduating seniors from Union County high schools. Written essays are due by March 23, 2024. Check with your school guidance counselor for details.
