“ How Optimism Has Guided Me Through Trying Times"
Club Awards: 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners receive $200, $175, $125 awards and an opportunity to compete at the District and International level.
Eligibility UPDATE:
- Contestants under the age of 19 as of October 1.
- Interested students submit a speech on the topic to the club Oratorical Chair.
- Combined boy and girl contests at all levels (Club-Zone-District).
- No minimum number of contestants for the Club Contest.

Club Awards:
1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place Winner Receives $200, $175, $125 awards and an opportunity to compete for a $2,500 District Scholarship award.
Eligibility Update:
Contestants under the age of 19 as of October 1, and have not yet graduated from high school or the equivalent. Interested students submit their essay on the topic to the club's Essay Chair.

Scholarship Essay Topic:
Utilizing the Optimist Creed, submit a two-page single spaced essay on "Why I deserve this award."
Scholarship Award:
A $2,000 stipend to attend a college, university, or post high school training of their choice.

Two hundred 4th and 5th graders from across Union County, who are recommended by their teachers, are entertained with a day of bowling, pizza, gifts of books and a Certificate of Recognition for their hard work at improving some aspect of themselves.
